There is also a Premium+ Plan, but it is aimed at more advanced affiliate marketers. This review’s focus is on starting in affiliate marketing, so Premium+ is beyond the scope of this article. I will not review it except to say that you can upgrade to it from either Starter or Premium.
Training to Get Started in Affiliate Marketing

The Basic Training
This is where you learn about affiliate marketing and how to put it to work for your benefit.
Lesson Format
Each lesson usually consists of a short video, followed by two or three simple practical tasks that you should complete. The lessons follow a logical progression. They are short, easy to digest, and are not at all technical.
As you progress through each lesson, and complete the practical tasks, you will see that something interesting starts to happen. You will have started your actual business. And, as you complete more lessons you will have established and begun to grow your business’s first website.
Yes, I said ‘website’.
The idea of creating a website may seem daunting, but you have nothing to worry about. I guarantee that you can create a professionally-designed, fully-functioning basic website in less than 1 minute.
That’s not an error. You can do this whether you are 10 years old or 80. No technical knowledge required. It really is that easy.
Your shiny new website is immediately accessible on the internet and all you have to do is to add your own content.
The training continues to follow this pattern throughout. You learn something new, apply it in practice to your website or business, and continue growing it. Then move on to the next lesson.
Choosing a Path

The format differs from the Basic Training lessons. It is a live presentation with at least one host. This is usually one of the company founders, or an experienced associate. Because it is live, there is the opportunity for real-time question and answer sessions.
Depending on where you are in the world the scheduled time of the session might not be convenient. If you miss it, you can still access a recording of the session at a time that suits you.
The Member-created Training
Sometimes there are small problems that Wealthy Affiliate members encounter that the training does not cover. Someone may have gained some knowledge that others could find useful. Someone else may have a collection of tips and tricks they would be happy to share with others.
In Wealthy Affiliate you may create your own lessons and tutorials and make them available to the rest of the community.
Wealthy Affiliate encourages this and actually provides incentives for you to do so. As a result, a large and growing collection of useful member-created training material exists. This nicely complements all the official training that Wealthy Affiliate provides.
The Classrooms

The second Wealthy Affiliate product cornerstone is the platform that you host your website on.
Having Wealthy Affiliate host your websites comes with some advantages:
- Your Wealthy Affiliate subscription includes website hosting. You don’t pay extra for this. Even the free Starter Plan includes hosting. Depending on your plan, you get between 1 and 10, or more, websites included.
- A single user interface. You can access training, manage websites and use various essential tools and features from a single well-planned dashboard. Instead of grappling with diverse applications from different providers, you can focus your time and energy on producing content. The whole platform was revamped in 2021, which improved its usability and appearance.
- Wealthy Affiliate’s hosting is top quality. Once your website starts attracting traffic, the last thing you want is for it to be unreliable or slow. That translates to lost business. Wealthy Affiliate’s hosting platform is based upon Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) infrastructure. AWS is a subsidiary of Amazon. It is one of the very best-performing, most robust and secure hosting infrastructure platforms in the world. It hosts the Amazon.com website, so it absolutely has to be.
- Wealthy Affiliate uses WordPress. This is what you will use to create and manage your websites. Millions of websites use WordPress. It is so popular because it is very easy to use, extremely powerful and flexible.
Essential Tools to Get Started in Affiliate Marketing
Wealthy Affiliate provides you with several tools to help you on your affiliate marketing journey. Some of them are indispensable, and several do not even have equivalent counterparts anywhere else. I will mention the most important ones.
Jaaxy Lite
Early on in your training you will learn the importance of using certain keywords or phrases in your content. Do this well and you will see positive results and success sooner rather than later. A good keyword research tool is absolutely essential for this task.
Jaaxy Lite comes as standard in the Premium Plan. It is a cut-down version of its bigger brother, Jaaxy Pro, that sells separately. But to get started in affiliate marketing, it is more than sufficient.
Wealthy Affiliate claims a value of $19 for Jaaxy Lite. In fact, I believe it is almost worth the monthly Premium Plan subscription on its own. Even if you remove the training, hosting and all the other features that come with it.
I say this because I believe that you will struggle to find a good free alternative. And other paid options cost a whole lot more. For example, Jaaxy Pro costs $49/m, and some competitors can set you back $100 to $400 a month, or more.
WordPress Website Builder and Customizations
WordPress makes the creation of a website supremely simple, and without requiring any programming skills or knowledge. It also gives you access to several customization tools.
For example, WordPress themes let you adjust your whole website’s aesthetic to your liking – at the click of a button. And plug-ins allow you to easily add all kinds of additional functions to your site. Or configure it in a multitude of ways. All of this, according to your needs and with 1 or 2 clicks of a mouse button.
There are literally many thousands of themes and plug-ins at your disposal, in both free and paid versions.

From here, you can create and manage all your websites and domains, access various tools and get support from Wealthy Affiliate.

This is another tool that helps you to create and manage content for your website. It has a built-in spelling and grammar-checker, a duplicate content-checker and several templates.

You can also use templates as a starting point for creating and structuring your own content. They include guidelines for suggested content length, numbers of headings and keywords.
Site Content also provides statistics on your writing activity, lets you organize and analyze your content, and more.

These tools let you request feedback on your website from the large member community. You can also harness this community to provide comments to your content posts. These interactions are invaluable in promoting the growth of a new website with search engines.

How Much Money Can You Earn with Wealthy Affiliate?
How much money you can earn depends entirely on your chosen niche, and on you.
That’s the short answer, and it deserves some explanation.
What is a Niche?
A niche is simply a small segment of a market that you choose to target.
Did you watch the video of the example Wealthy Affiliate lesson that I referred you to earlier? In the video they discuss an actual website targeting the football snack helmets niche. This is a really tiny, very specific niche, yet it brings in between $500 and $1000 every month.
That is probably not enough for many people, but here is the beauty of affiliate marketing. If you have fully developed a small niche like this, your website is very likely earning you money on autopilot. It is generating income with little or no additional intervention from you.
That allows you to identify a new niche that you can target and start developing.
It is not uncommon for affiliate marketers to operate in multiple niches.
On the other hand, a single niche could also provide you with all of the income that you could need.
There is no limit to how much money you can make. The more time and effort that you put in, the more you are likely to earn.
It is Not a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme
A word of caution. Although affiliate marketing can be very lucrative in the longer term, Wealthy Affiliate is not a get-rich-quick scheme. In fact, affiliates will have to put in some work, and be patient for a few months before meaningful revenues start coming in.
In the last free lesson of the Affiliate Bootcamp training, Kyle, the co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate, gives some insight into how much time it takes to start making steady earnings. He shows, very clearly how things like time, visitor traffic and content are related, and influence revenue growth over time.
The earnings estimates he provides are for promoting Wealthy Affiliate. They will differ from niche to niche and other factors, like your own work rate.

Is Wealthy Affiliate A Scam or Is it Legit?
This is the question foremost in people’s minds when they consider any unknown online offering. It is understandable, especially when the online world is as littered with scams as it is.
Consider that Wealthy Affiliate has been in business since 2005. In that time, it has had more than 2 million members and is rated an excellent 4.9 out of 5 on TrustPilot.
It is still owned and run by the same 2 people who founded the business: Kyle Loudon and Carson Lim.
Is there anyone else who can claim that much longevity and success in this business?
Scammers promise immediate wealth, but Wealthy Affiliate does the opposite. They certainly assure you that good income will come. But they also make no secret of the fact that some time, patience and effort will be required.
Questionable offerings are likely to demand full payment up front. Wealthy Affiliate gives you free Starter membership which you get to keep if you choose not to upgrade. If you upgrade to Premium, you can choose to pay monthly. That lets you cancel your membership anytime that you think Wealthy Affiliate is not living up to your expectations.
I am a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate, and have been since 2017. Due to personal circumstances I had to leave them in 2018 for a few months, but re-joined in 2019. I can assure you that Wealthy Affiliate is 100% above board. It is a perfectly legitimate business that offers a quality product.
It is most certainly not a scam by any means.
Isn’t Promoting Wealthy Affiliate Like Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)?
I suppose that, promoting Wealthy Affiliate does give off a little whiff of MLM. But I don’t believe it is, and here’s why I don’t think it can be called that.
First of all, it is a training course and product that is about affiliate marketing. All kinds of courses and products around the world are promoted by affiliates daily, and many thousands are sold this way. Why shouldn’t Wealthy Affiliate be promoted using the same business model, especially one that it teaches? It would be silly not to do it.
Secondly, as a member you have no obligation at all to promote Wealthy Affiliate. Neither are you pressured or urged to do so in any way. It is completely voluntary and up to you to choose to do it. In fact, many members opt not to promote Wealthy Affiliate, and find success promoting other products instead.
Finally, you are not required to buy any Wealthy Affiliate products yourself. That means you cannot suffer a financial loss if you are unable to sell them.
The only expense for you would be the cost of a website or whatever channel you use to promote it. Most affiliates promote multiple products anyway. So even the cost of the channel would be spread across many products.
Still Uncertain?
If you still have doubts about Wealthy Affiliate’s integrity, the best way to set your mind at ease is to try it out for yourself. Join as a Starter member (you won’t be asked for your credit card information). Experience the training and features first-hand, and make up your own mind. You will be urged to take the early upgrade offer to Premium, but you can decline it if you wish. You will lose the $30 discount on the first month’s Premium membership, though, if you decide to upgrade later.
If you’re not convinced, you can leave Wealthy Affiliate without any obligation. Or, you can continue to use it on the Starter Plan. You still get to keep the Starter training and free website – forever.
Membership And Payment Plans
Wealthy Affiliate offers 3 membership plans: Starter, Premium and Premium+. This review only covers the first two. I have prepared a summary of the benefits of each of these for you below.
Starter Membership
The Good
Wealthy Affiliate’s Starter Plan gives you access to a very limited number of lessons. These are just enough to acquire the very basics of affiliate marketing, and get started.
You also get a free website. A good thing about the free SiteRubix hosting is that there is no branding or forced advertising. This is usually not the case with other free websites.
You get access to Wealthy Affiliate’s referral program, if you want to promote them. However, the commissions paid are only half of what a Premium member would get.
The best thing about the Starter membership, is that it is free forever. You can complete the 20 training lessons, choose your niche, build your website and never have to pay a penny. You can even earn commissions for promoting Wealthy Affiliate and other products.
The Bad
A Starter website exists as a subdomain of siterubix.com, This means that your website’s address will be known as yoursitename.siterubix.com, instead of yoursitename.com. It is not possible to have your own domain with a Starter website.
This makes your site’s name a little harder for visitors to remember. It also appears less professional than a site with its own domain name.
Google and other search engines don’t rank websites on subdomains as highly as sites on their own domains. This means that your website will generally appear lower in search results. This is a disadvantage, but it’s not the biggest drawback of the Starter Plan.
Many of the useful tools and features found in Premium are also absent from Starter.
By far the biggest limitation of Starter is that you only get 30 searches on the keyword research tool. If you work smart and carefully, that can get you enough usable keywords for a small handful of content posts. For some perspective, I probably do close to 30 searches when I research keywords for just one my own posts. That is how restrictive this limit is.
Starter Plan Verdict
The constraints that come with Starter are serious. You can make it work though. It will likely be much harder and slower than being on Premium, but not impossible.
Ultimately, the Starter Plan is really meant to be a way to introduce you to the platform. A way for you to get a feel for the training and features. To reassure you that everything is genuine and that you have a good chance of succeeding.
I can recommend Starter only for those reasons, and you should definitely use it for those reasons. But, if you want to approach affiliate marketing seriously, staying on Starter is the hard way to do it.
Premium Membership
Premium membership costs $49/month but, if you upgrade from Starter within 7 days, you get the first month of Premium at a discounted fee of only $19.
This gives you unlimited access to all the Premium training, tools and features, and lets you have up to 10 websites – each with its own domain. Refer to the comparison table below for a more complete list of benefits.
The additional training that you get with Premium builds and expands on the Level 1 training in Starter. It contains essential knowledge that helps to propel you forward, and to start getting better results sooner. The unrestricted access to Premium tools, especially Jaaxy Lite, makes life a lot easier and gives you the freedom to fine-tune your content just right.
For Premium members, the only additional cost is an annual fee for your own domain which is around $14. You can also choose to pay for your Premium membership annually, in which case the fee is $495. You get one domain included in that, so effectively you get 2 months of Premium membership for free.
Premium Plan Verdict
The additional value that is unlocked with Premium easily justifies the cost. It is virtually a no-brainer in my opinion.
Almost all competing programs don’t offer website builders or hosting, and don’t include any essential tools or any of Wealthy Affiliate’s other features.
Some of these programs cost more than Wealthy Affiliate’s annual fee. And practically all of them require that you pay the full fee up front. So Wealthy Affiliate’s option of a monthly subscription makes it very accessible.
It’s also relatively risk-free. That’s because you can cancel in any month in the unlikely event that you are dissatisfied with it.

If you cannot afford Premium and you intend to remain a Starter member, you will be at a relative disadvantage. And I predict that the going will be quite a bit tougher. But, given enough time, and self-motivation, you should eventually be able to start to make some money this way. Whatever the case, you should join with the intention of eventually upgrading to Premium as soon as you can. The additional training and features in Premium will serve you well, and will help to accelerate your progress.
