What is Honeygain?
Honeygain is an app that lets you transparently share your internet connection so that you can sell your internet bandwidth. The app works in the background of your computer or mobile phone in a way that does not interfere with your normal internet usage.
Honeygain uses this bandwidth to facilitate proxy services. According to them, these are used by researchers from a wide variety of companies.
The app is available for Windows, MacOS and Android. Due to a technical limitation of IOS the app is not available for Apple’s mobile devices.
*UPDATE: Honeygain is now available for iPhone and iPad from the App Store. It requires IOS 13 and only works when the app is in the foreground.
How Do You Make Money With Honeygain?
Once the Honeygain app has been installed and set up you don’t need to do anything else to start earning.
For the default network sharing mode, you will earn 1000 credits (US $1) for every 10GB that is sold through your connection.
You can also configure the app to enable Content Delivery if it is available in your country. This is a relatively new feature and allows bandwidth-intensive media such as videos to be processed through your link. You will earn 10 credits for every hour that it is active and delivering content.
If you log in to the Honeygain website you can participate in the daily Lucky Pot game. You get one chance every day day to win up to 10 000 credits.
Finally, if you refer a friend you will earn 10% of your friend’s daily bandwidth-sharing earnings.
According to Honeygain’s FAQ, your credits do not expire as long as you continue to be active. If you become inactive, your credits expire 6 months after the last day that you shared your bandwidth.
You can request a payout once you have accumulated 20 000 credits, which is worth $20.
Honeygain makes cash payments to your PayPal account. You can open a free PayPal account here if you don’t already have one. If you prefer to earn cryptocurrency, you can get paid in Bitcoin. You will need a wallet in order to receive the Bitcoin. You can get an excellent Bitcoin wallet for free at Coinbase.
Is Honeygain safe to use?
We have been running Honeygain on 2 Windows desktop computers and an Android phone for almost 10 months. All these devices are protected with the latest version of Norton 360 internet security software. In all cases, Norton declared the app safe upon installation, and has never indicated that it was doing anything suspicious.
As far as privacy is concerned, Honeygain assures users that the app’s connection is fully encrypted and cannot be accessed by outside parties, thereby guaranteeing that your private information is inaccessible.
If you’re an Android user you will be wondering why the app is not available from the Google Play Store. The reason seems to be that Honeygain and Google disagree about the nature and intent of the app. Honeygain has a more detailed explanation on their FAQ which you can read. Android users can download Honeygain from their website.
As far as we can tell, Honeygain’s app does what they say it does. Ultimately, though, the decision to use the app or to avoid it must be yours. If you don’t feel comfortable to install and use it then don’t.
How Will Honeygain Perform On My Device?
Honeygain runs on our DSL internet connection which also carries our Netflix subscription’s traffic.
This link was recently upgraded to 20MB/s, but for 9 of the 10 months that we have used Honeygain the link ran at 10MB/s.
For the most part, the 2 desktop computers were running 24/7 and were seldom turned off. Since we started using the app we did not detect any degradation in their performance. While watching Netflix shows and YouTube, we did experience the occasional brief period of buffering. This was very rare, though, and also sometimes happened prior to installing Honeygain. We could not really tell whether it happened more frequently after we started using the app.
The Android device is essentially a backup phone which never gets carried around or used as a phone. It runs Honeygain using a mobile 3G/4G connection. We have a few small apps and games loaded on it, which we run now and again. Our assessment of its performance whilst running Honeygain is therefore superficial and might not reflect actual performance in daily use. Having said that, all the apps we tried ran smoothly while Honeygain ran in the background.
We were unable to try Honeygain on a system running MacOS.
Honeygain’s bandwidth consumption varies according to demand from its customers and is different in every country and region. Before installing Honeygain we expected that it would be a bandwith hog and use up all our bandwidth. We were pleasantly surprised to find plenty left over each month that was not used by Honeygain or ourselves.
From our experience it seems that Honeygain is a well-behaved application. It seemed to manage its use of our bandwidth well, and without noticeably interfering with the normal use of our devices and TV.
Is Honeygain A Scam?
Based upon our own experience, Honeygain is not a scam. Honeygain paid us every time we reached their $20 payment threshold and requested a payout.
Honeygain doesn’t send your payout directly to PayPal, but instead chooses to go through a payment provider called Tipalti. Tipalti handles the payment process further until your funds become available in PayPal.
We didn’t ever encounter payment problems with Honeygain or Tipalti and always received payment within the stipulated 3-4 business day period.
We never used the option to be paid in Bitcoin instead of cash. But, if our experience with Honeygain’s cash payments is anything to go by, we see no reason why Bitcoin payments should be any less reliable.
Conclusion
We have been using and getting paid by Honeygain, problem-free, for more than one year. For these reasons, we believe that it is a legitimate opportunity to make some money.
When you make money with Honeygain, you won’t become rich, so don’t have any high expectations. But consider that, after you install and start it up, you keep earning money continuously without lifting a finger again. It really is money for nothing.
And it adds up after a while.
We’re happy with Honeygain and continue to use it. If you want to make some cash or Bitcoin online, with little or no effort, you should consider it.
You can try Honeygain for free and they will give you a $5 bonus, just for trying it out.
You can make some money really easily with Honeygain, but it will only pay for the occasional cup of coffee or beer now and then.
What if you could make some real money online. Enough for several coffees, or maybe even to provide you with a full-time income. There is a way and it is almost as easy to understand and do.
